Day 57/Feb 26: Smitten by ‘Smit’

Today, we are heading back to Shillong and enroute we went visiting ‘Smit’ village to meet someone special(at least for me). Smit, the cultural center of the Khasi Hills, is situated 11 km away from the capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong on the Shillong Jowai Road.

Smit has acclaimed wide recognition for the celebration of Ka Pomblang Nongkrem, a festival celebrated during autumn, it is a five-day long thanksgiving ceremony to Goddess Ka Blei Synshar for a rich harvest. Tradition is that, the eldest sister of the king inaugurates the festival, as she acts as the head priest of the event. We visited the temple/palace of the head priestess, couldn’t meet her but met her lovely daughter/princess ‘R’ who will take on the reins from her mother eventually. R is an embodiment of simplicity, charm and my friend..
